Hope

Today the sun looked like this and it reminded me to hope.

Because in our office it's easy to get drawn into the despair that comes when regularly engaging with difficult justice issues:

We think of broken countries like Syria where three years later lives are still being destroyed.
We think of broken people like those in Uganda, who were forced to fight and kill as children and are still dealing with the aftermath.
We think of broken power struggles, wondering how equality could ever make a difference to the lives of those truly in need.

We're adamant that we need to keep going even though sometimes it can all seem a bit too much. It's hard to stay positive and we question if we're doing things right. Poverty still exists and the world is still broken. It is an uphill battle and sometimes it feels like we're losing. Often it feels like we're only scratching the surface and we ask ourselves what we can do next in a world that seems apathetic and ignorant of the brokenness that exists.

But I believe in a God who is bigger and stronger than us; one who is angry at injustice with us and cares that we're caring too. I believe that our passion should never be stifled because our determination to continue will make a difference. In the midst of human despair I feel more strongly than ever that it's time to hope again and to trust in the power of the One who is so on our side that he died for us.

Let's lift our eyes up to the God who is for us.

Hope against hope: “to cling to a mere possibility”
